Józef Mehoffer House is one of the branches of the National Museum in Cracow, which is completely dedicated to the painter Joseph Mehoffer. Interesting fact is that before Mehoffer bought it, house belonged to the family of another great Polish painter - Wyspiański, who was born in this house in 1869.
The initiator of the creation of the museum was son of Józef Mehoffer – this idea was born in 1963. Mehoffers family moved out of the house, but the renovation of their old home began in 1979, and ended finnaly in the early 90s eventually being finied by a grandson of Joseph Mehoffer. Family of Mehoffers donated to the museum many exhibits such as furniture, arts and crafts and other things that allowed for the appropriate finishing of the interior of the Museum basing on old photograps from the family archive.
